Dear Friends,
In my [Tarot Correspondences] handout I cover the topic of Elemental energies and the Tarot (among other things). I would like to review key parts of the handout and presentation for those who could not attend and to expand on concepts I only briefly mentioned.
On slide 3, I mention some of the most common associations with the Elements and the suits of the Tarot:
• Fire – Wands -
– Intuition, Enthusiasm, Fertility, Spirit
• Water – Cups -
– Emotions, Feelings, Happiness, Heart, Soul
• Earth – Pentacles
– Sensation, Material Prosperity, Body
• Air – Swords
– Intellect, Conquest, Mind, Ego
Something that I incorporate in my intuitive-spiritual practice relates to this, but is in a slightly different order and way:
• Earth – Pentacles – Your Physical Identity
– Your sense of grounding and connection to your body on the physical plane. That which brings you health, prosperity, security, and dynamic presence.
• Water – Cups – Your Emotional Identity
– Your sense of sexuality, self-gratification and happiness. Your connection to others through feeling, desire, sensation, and movement. That which brings you emotional satisfaction, depth of feeling, sexual fulfillment, and the ability to accept change.
• Air – Swords – Your Ego Identity
– Your sense of self-definition and who you are. Your connection with your personal power, will, and autonomy, as well as your metabolism. That which brings you energy, enthusiasm, effectiveness, spontaneity, and influencing power.
• Fire – Wands – Your Social Identity
– Your sense of self-acceptance. Your connection to love and the integration of opposites in the psyche: mind and body, male and female, ego and unity. That which allows you to love deeply, feel compassion, make sound decisions, form meaningful relationships, and have a deep sense of peace and balance.
I listed this in this order to show a foundational approach to reviewing issues in your life. With many of my clients and our sessions, I see gaps among these aspects of their lives and attempts to trade energy from one aspect to pay down deficiencies in another. While this may work in an emergency – it can serious side affects.
For example, Say you are a single mother who feels torn due to your work schedule and your ability to connect with your child. Your Social Identity is yearning for a connection with your child – to enjoy the normal give and take between parent and child. You may want to impart some life experiences and bonding at a deep level. However, due to your Physical Identity, you feel compelled to work overtime to meet your perceived needs for security (money), health insurance, paying the rent in your nice home, dealing with issues involving the material plane. So, what do you do? You take energy from the Material plane (money) and try to apply it to the Social Identity aspect of your life (giving gifts to your child to make up for the lack of a meaningful relationship, paying for child care). This may work for some time, but eventually causes energy gaps between the two apspect of your wholeness. You and your child begin doubting your role as parent (Your Ego Identity) and soon your relationship with your child becomes transactional rather than based on an emotional attachment. You and your child become unhappy with each other (Emotional Identity).
I point out this example, because in readings the lack of a suit or related intuitive feelings that point to a lack in any one of these areas often has symptoms caused by over-compensation in another aspect as shown above.
Another example would be someone who has a lot of self doubt and behaves in ways that bolster their Ego. They may shop to buy things that make them feel like they are important. They are in fact feeding their Ego from energy in the Physical Identity. Soon they begin noticing a lack of peace or balance in their life and their ability to connect or relate with others in a meaningful way (Social Identity). They have given an aspect of their free will over to advertising machines (Ego Identity). While thinking they have free choice to choose that special shoe, bag, or car – they are in fact trying to exchange energy from their Physical Identity to compensate for a lack in their Ego Identity.
There are many, many examples. When I conduct an intuitive session, I look for these gaps in energy and in personal intent. I use our intuitive connection to illustrating where these gaps lie and in how one can go about recognizing ways to fill them.
I’d love to hear your posts concerning this topic and happy to address specific questions you feel you may have in your life relating to these four aspects of wholeness.
Brightest of Blessings to You!
Stephen
