Everyone has the ability to access his or her inner wisdom and receive trustworthy advice.  Recalling your early childhood impressions and perceptions on life, you had an innate feel for interacting with your environment.  While these feelings were aligned with your inner wisdom - parents, caregivers, and society quickly overrode this guidance.

Others imposing their thoughts and opinions upon you was a necessary and  natural part of your socialization process.  Unfortunately for most of us, this process placed emphasis only on the physical senses (touch, reasoning, sight); external stimuli (television, movies, music); and social/parental morals and ethics for seeking guidance and direction.  Many of these things are helpful and good. However, by the time we are adults, the influence of that inner voice we knew so well as a child is so weak, or its existence completely deigned, that we have lost the ability and skills for effectively seeking its guidance and wisdom. 

So, your approach to seeking inner guidance should include as sense of childlike love to do what is right.  Historical figures from many religions emphasize both a childlike love and a childlike perspective on life as excellent virtues when seeking inner wisdom.
